False Awakening

multi-channel video installation
2016

Exoticism as a backdrop, locals as extras: depictions of the foreign often serve as a projection for unfulfilled dreams, longings and desires. The 'foreign' is supposed to relativise one’s own, but at the same time remains unattainable. In the illusion of a trouble-free world lies the ceaseless search for earthly paradise, for origin and harmony.

The video work examines representations of the foreign in the German TV series 'Das Traumschiff', their representation, production of meaning and influence on the subconscious.
