The starting point of the multi-part work is the continuity of Russia’s propagandistic staging before and after the invasion of Ukraine, characterized by militarism and nationalism. «mit freundlichem Beifall» («with friendly applause») shifts the perspective to fragments of media productions and questions the mechanisms of disinformation and deception.
/// Two years before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the curtains in the parade hall of the President of the Russian Federation are being replaced. The new backdrop in the Kremlin’s state room features opulent yet taut folds. A green and beige patterned fabric is laid in lavish arches, while golden decorative borders and tie-backs line the curtain. The view to the outside is not available.
/// “[...] He, Putin, expressly approves of possible preparations by Yeltsin and the military to bring about a Pinochet-style dictatorship in view of the difficult path of the private sector. Putin’s remarks were received with friendly applause by both the German company representatives and the deputy German consul general who was present.”
Neues Deutschland, December 31, 1993

By superimposing two images, stereoscopy enables the reproduction of a spatial impression, whereby the depth of the surface remains an illusion.
